Jury splits verdict in case of Oregon man who helped in sale of Russian machine gun to federal agent

The 1945 Soviet-made PPSh-41 machine gun, referred to as simply "the Russian," in secretly recorded phone conversations, was sold to an undercover federal agent for $8,000 in cash. Court Exhibit

During a phone call with a man named Jay, Salem resident Daniel Kittson said he knew of a rare “Russian” that would spit out 1,200 to 1,400 rounds a minute.

“Russian” was code for a 1945 Soviet-made PPSh-41 machine gun.
